Advent calendars have their beginnings in the 19th century, when European Protestants that wanted to start to mark off dates leading up to Chirstmas, on their home walls or entrances, often lighting candles in a nativity scene. I was inspired to make this advent calender in memeory of my grandfather, which had some Bavarian German in him and it was their family tradition, since they had travelled to this country. This one is perfect to hide little goodies in each drawer. Some have used candy in each drawer or an affirmation or something thankful to share. This little one is unique one of a kind and has a light which glows behind the two sweet gingerbread couple. The battery is easily changed in the back.
