Plan a Relaxing Day as an Artist: Fun, Whimsy, and Creativity!

Updated: Sep 20

Even artists need a break sometimes! Taking a day to relax and play can help refresh your creativity and bring new inspiration to your art. Whether you’re sketching, painting, or just enjoying the process, this guide will help you plan a fun, carefree day full of whimsy and imagination. Get ready to explore new ideas, unwind, and have fun while creating!

1. Start with Fun Doodles

Begin your day by grabbing a sketchbook and doodling whatever comes to mind. Don't stress about achieving perfection—just enjoy yourself! Draw silly creatures, funky shapes, or even random squiggles. The crucial thing is to relax and allow your imagination to lead the way.

2. Take a Nature Walk for Inspiration

Nature is full of colors and patterns that can inspire your art. Step outside for a walk, whether it’s in a park, along the beach, or just around your neighborhood. Take your time to notice the little things, like the way the sunlight hits the leaves or how the clouds form different shapes. Bring a small notepad or sketchbook to quickly draw anything that catches your eye.

3. Create Art Just for Fun

Now it’s time to dive into creating something just for the joy of it. Grab your favorite art supplies and let yourself play. Paint a colorful abstract scene, sculpt a funny creature out of clay, or make a collage from magazine cutouts. Don’t stress about making it perfect—just enjoy the process and have fun experimenting!

4. Have a Creative Lunch

Why not make lunch a part of your creative day? Pack a colorful picnic with vibrant fruits, snacks, and drinks, or head to a fun, artsy café. Arrange your food in an artistic way—think of it as a mini food sculpture. Enjoying a creative meal can keep the playful, whimsical spirit going!

5. Explore New Art Materials

Try something new in the afternoon. If you’ve always wanted to experiment with clay, watercolors, or even finger painting, now’s your chance! Spend some time exploring a new medium without worrying about the outcome. The goal is to try new things and enjoy the process of discovery.

6. Visit Local Art Spots in Central Florida

To truly recharge your creative energy, visit some of Central Florida’s best local art spots. Check out Galerie Elan in Daytona Beach, one of the top galleries in the area. They sponsor the First Friday Artwalk, a monthly event where local artists display their work downtown. Visiting a gallery or attending an art walk can fill you with fresh inspiration for your own projects.

Another great spot is the Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens in Winter Park. Stroll through peaceful gardens while admiring beautiful sculptures. Or, swing by BoHo Society 71 in Daytona for quirky, handmade art treasures. For an even larger experience, visit the Orlando Museum of Art and get lost in the amazing exhibits.

7. Reflect on Your Day

As the day comes to a close, spare a few moments to contemplate your experiences.Grab a journal or sketchbook and jot down any ideas or inspirations that came to you during the day. You could even create a small piece of art that captures the feeling of relaxation and fun.

Remember to have fun with your art! Creativity blossoms when you're happy and spontaneous. Take a break, enjoy doing art, and see how it sparks ideas for your next amazing creation! Hope you have a creatuive day! Jennifer
